SUMMER theatre opportunities @ LAKESHORE PLAYERS THEATRE
SUMMER YOUTH PLAYERS - PERFORMANCE
students grades 6th through 12th
Something for everyone, whether it’s your first play, or your fiftieth!
One of the strongest values of SYP is “student fingerprints belong on everything.” Whether participants choose to register for the optional writing workshops that will create the text of the play, attend the no-additional-cost tech sessions to build, sew, light, and paint the show in the afternoons, or join us just for rehearsal and performance, everyone will have the opportunity to share their talents on the Lakeshore stage. Students will create a community as they practice the tools of a theatre artist, working with professional Teaching Artists to hone their skills and polish up the show that The Time Machine will become. We are excited to welcome back Aaron Fiskradatz as Director and Writing Workshop Lead.
Camp Dates: Monday through Friday, July 8th through 26th
Performances: July 26th-28th.
Cost: $450/per student
Time: 9:00-12:00 (Performance Camp) 12:30-3:30 (Optional Technical Theatre Shop Hours).
Auditions: June 19 & 20 - Time TBD || Students must attend one of the two audition dates.
Director: Aaron Fiskradatz
The Time Machine
A New Adaptation of the Science Fiction Classic by H.G. Wells
Students will be encouraged to use the themes and structure of the original story to create a new work of time-traveling adventure. As the cornerstone of such diverse modern classics as Doctor Who and Back to the Future, this story is sure to continue capturing the imaginations of generations to come. In particular, we will explore the book's themes of social structure and class in a world years grown (or decayed) from the one we now know. We will look to complicate the narrative of the "peaceful" Eloi and the "warlike" Morlocks even more so than in the original. While the plot of the Wells novella will form the foundation of the story, we will be open to adding characters and situations beyond the scope of that text.
SYP WRITING WORKSHOPS
The Time Machine? We’re writing it! After the success of last year’s The Porter Project during SYP 2018, Lakeshore will once more offer a series of writing workshops where members of the cast will discuss H.G. Wells original text and begin writing some of their own. The students will work together to create characters, plots, and twist and turns for themselves, as they slowly write the play together over 8 sessions this spring.
Writing Camp Dates: April 29, May 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, 24
Day and Time: 4:30-6:30 pm, Mondays and Fridays
Teaching Artist: Aaron Fiskradatz
Attendance at one of the two audition days is mandatory.
All auditions, workshops, and camps will be held at Lakeshore Players Theatre’s new location: 4941 Long Avenue, White Bear Lake, MN 55110
